Hello Everyone,
Welcome to "How to Kickstart," the blog about how to use Kickstarter and start a business with crowdfunding in general.
This blog about crowdfunding was started really as a way for me to put some concepts "on paper." I have run about a dozen Kickstarters over the last several years and I have come to find the formula that seems to be working. I am going to be discussing the various components of what makes a successful campaign. I'm doing this so that I have a reference for myself and my coworkers, partners and investors, but also so that I don't have to store all this data in my head.
We will work largely on a crowdfunding case-study approach. We will take certain campaigns and analyze why they went wrong or why they went right. Many of these will be from my personal experience as well as just plain observation.
As I said, I have been a part of about a dozen Kickstarters. Most of these have focused in the technology space. They have varied in success from no backers, to funded in hours. Many of these campaigns have been a part of my company Slant Concepts, which is a product design company. We use Kickstarter to test our ideas. At this point we have a significantly better success rate than the average on Kickstarter. (30% success is the average by the way)
I also track and keep tabs on Kickstarter companies on a regular basis, both as a backer and interested party ('cuz cool stuff comes out on Kickstarter)
We will focus on Kickstarter, because it is the best know and most used platform. But I have used and will discuss others, particularly Indiegogo.
With that let's move onto something that matters. Hope you enjoy.
